RID35068 calyceal crescent sign

definition

Crescent-shaped opacity seen on early intravenous pyelogram x-rays that fades over time. Caused by concentration of contrast in collecting ducts and ducts of Bellini diverted by dilated calyces. Suggests hydronephrosis.
