0040222 Maternal thrombophilia

comment

Maternal thrombophilia has been linked to an increased incidence of placental abruption, as well as other adverse pregnancy outcomes. It is believed that the increased obstetrical risk is mediated through placental vascular dysfunction. Placental thrombosis can then result in subsequent ischemic complications, such as fetal loss, preeclampsia, and fetal growth restriction. Placental abruption has been identified as being part of the spectrum of ischemic placental disease and is postulated to be a chronic disease process (PMID:25401392).
